G - A film is to be classified as General if the content is considered by the board to be suitable for viewing by persons of all ages
 

PG: A film is to be classified as Parental Guidance where the themes or content of the film may not, in the opinion of the board, be suitable for all children

 
 

12 & 12A: A film is to be classified 12 where in the opinion of the Board the themes or content of the film is Suitable for persons 12 years and over; and No-one younger than 12 may see a ‘12A’ film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. No-one younger than 12 may rent or buy a ‘12’ rated video or DVD.
 
 
15: A film to be classified as 15 where the film or video work, is in the opinion of the Board Suitable only for persons 15 years and over. No-one younger than 15 may see a ‘15’ film in a cinema.
 

18: A film is to be classified as 18 where the film, in the opinion of the board, is suitable for viewing by persons over 18 years of age but not for persons under 18 years of age.

 
 
RE: A film is to be classified as Restricted Exhibition where the film, in the opinion of the board, is not suitable for viewing by persons under 18 years of age because the film contains frequent use of any of the following: (a) brutal or graphic violence;§ (b) intense horror;          (c) sexual scenes;    (d) Other disturbing content
